Khan Saheb-Hazrat Saleh
Hazrat Syed Saleh Khan, the saint was born in
Pakhla (in present day Pakistan) in the 16th century. There were
omens and signs at the time of his birth which indicated to those who could
interpret that a major saint has been born.
As many as 99 saints visited the house of Ismail sahib the father of
Khan Saheb to see him on the day that he was born.
An uncle wanted to adopt Saleh when he was
five and pressurized his father. To avoid unpleasantness his father Ismail
migrated to Kashmir along with his son.
In Kashmir they sought out Baba Naseer-ud-din Ghazi who let them stay
with him. After one year Ismail left but Saleh remained with Baba for next 12
years. Then for another 12 years he meditated in a cave which is called now as
Khan Saheb. The word about his spiritual powers spread and a huge crowd use to
flock to his cave.
Khan Saheb was an excellent calligrapher. A
copy of the Holy Quran copied by him still exists in Srinagar. Khan Saheb died
in 1019 Hj. The annual Urs s celebrated on 17th in the month of
Ziaqad.
